Short Description: A hand-blown paperweight in the French sulfure tradition, encasing delicate marine or floral motifs in soda-lime glass with coloured powder inclusions.

Narrative

The Glass Paperweight, also known as a sulfure, originates from Vannes-Le-Châtel, France. It is crafted from soda-lime and powdered colour. The creation process begins with molten glass collected on a blowpipe. Artisans use fine tools to shape intricate details, such as petals and coral, within the glass. These details are then encased in a transparent glass layer, which protects and magnifies the inner design. The final step involves annealing the paperweight in a kiln to ensure strength and stability.
For care, it should be handled gently due to its delicate nature. Cleaning should be done by hand, avoiding sudden temperature changes. When disposing of it, it should not be treated as ordinary glass, as it is a crafted piece of art.
The Glass Paperweight captures a microcosm of nature's beauty within its fragile yet strong form, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of 19th-century French artisans.
