The drawings have been executed in such a way that the passage of the threads is understandable and highlights the process represented. These drawings do not show the real appearance of the tapestry fabric where the weft threads must be packed down in order to completely hide the warp threads.
Duite, feminine noun. Set of two passes (passées), that is to say a movement of left to right then right to left of the weft thread through the warp, generally perpendicular to it. The first passée covers a layer : after packing, the warp is completely covered on both sides of the piece. Duites rarely extend from selvedge to selvedge : they stop at the outline of the drawing or are limited in the monochrome parts by the material conditions of the work.
